in the middle of preparing for the "This Wild World" issue and marveling at the wondrous beauty of life and God's creation, i found out that one of my grandfathers had died, suddenly and unexpectedly.
and so i'm off to Arizona for a funeral, stunned to silence with the immediate intertwining of life and death and at how the lives of my beloved relatives will be carefully braided together in Phoenix with my own life. i feel the need to physically touch the people i love. i feel the need to embrace my grandma across two thousand miles.
