Kirstin and I were planning to go to the south suburbs of Chicago this weekend primarily so Kirstin could be a part of her sister's baby shower. And then ...
We received a somewhat expected word on Friday afternoon that my brother and his wife had successfully delivered their fourth child and first boy (bringing the total of nieces and nephews in my family to 10: 8 nieces, 2 nephews). So, of course, we decided to visit Jeff and Melissa (my brother and his wife) and their new boy, Cole Aidan, while we were in town.
After our visit on Saturday night, Kirstin spent time with her family in Highland, IN, and I--along with Nate, a good friend from Michigan--enjoyed a brainstorming session with Grant in Evanston, IL.
Driving through Chicago on Sunday morning, Nate and I received word from Kirstin that Brianne (Kirstin's sister) had gone into labor at 2:30 that morning. We quickly scrapped plans of going to church and dedicated the day to waiting. And waiting.
We visited the Lagerway/BC household in the afternoon--which, as per usual, was absolutely wonderful--and ended up staying for six hours. In the meantime, Nate took our car back to Michigan to fulfill obligations there and we devised a scheme by which we could return to Michigan the following day. Our friend Mary gave us a ride back to Highland so we could wait with Kirstin's family.
And we waited more. Then we went to the hospital with Kirstin's family, hoping the baby would be born before visiting hours were over. Unfortunately, we had to return home to continue the wait.
Finally, at 9:06 p.m., Brianne and Charles delivered a healthy baby boy, Charles Garry Mitchell, Jr. We're going to see him now ...
